چکیده مقاله:

Background & Objective: Since colorectal cancer does not often have phenotypic symptoms in the early stages, the study of biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of the tumor is very important. MicroRNAs are one of the most important biomarkers which attract the attention of many researchers due to a variety of reasons, including their non-invasive nature; these molecules are a group of non-coding small RNAs that suppress gene expression by interacting with mRNA at the post-transcriptional level. The objective of the present study is to investigate the potential of microRNAs as a biomarker for colorectal cancer and evaluating their changes at different pathophysiological and molecular levels of cancer. Methods: In this review study, we explored the PubMed, Google Scholar and Scopus databases to investigate the role of microRNAs in colorectal cancer. Conclusion: The discovery of the fact that microRNAs are able to act as oncogene or tumor suppressor has led to the initiation of extensive investigations on cancer, resulting in the identification of various microRNAs involved in carcinogenesis and its progression. Various studies have shown that microRNAs are dysregulated in tissue samples and body fluids of people with colorectal cancer. MicroRNAs in body fluids such as serum, plasma, and fecal specimens are chemically stable, and their diagnosis is easy, so by studying microRNAs in colorectal cancer, the initiation, stages, spread, or mechanisms of the tumor can be predicted and notified.

A Review of the Function of Circulating Cell Free miRNAs as Promising Biomarkers in Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment, and Metastasis

Cell Free miRNAs are small, non-coding molecules that can be secreted into the bloodstream in very stable forms. These types of miRNAs, like intracellular miRNAs, participate in the control of many biological processes and are expressed in both natural and pathological conditions. Quantitative and qualitative changes in expression of circulating miRNAs are associated with the onset and progress...

Exosomal miRNAs as Biomarkers for Prostate Cancer

miRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that finely regulate gene expression in cells. Alterations in miRNA expression have been associated with development of cancer, and miRNAs are now being investigated as biomarkers for cancer as well as other diseases. Recently, miRNAs have been found outside cells in body fluids. Extracellular miRNAs exist in different forms - associated with Ago2 proteins, load...

Volatile organic compounds as new biomarkers for colorectal cancer: a review.

Analysis of the volatile part of the metabolome (volatile organic compounds, VOC) present in the gas phase of excreted materials is a promising new screening tool for several cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). The VOC signature can reflect health status, like a 'fingerprint', and can be modified in several diseases. Technical difficulties still limit the widespread use of VOC analysis ...

New Approaches to Use Nanoparticles for Treatment of Colorectal Cancer; a Brief Review

Nanoparticles have been at the center of research focus as a new promising material for the treatment of cancer in recent years. Although many chemotherapy drugs for cancer treatment are available, their potential toxicity is the main point of concern. On the other hand, the conventional chemotherapeutic approach has not been found to be very efficient in colorectal cancer (CRC) as the drug mol...

Role of Molecular Biomarkers in Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is amongst the most widespread cancers and is a most common cause of cancer associated mortality universally. Since previous decades, it has been cleared that CRC develops owing to the buildup of a series of genetic and epigenetic changes in the normal colonic epithelium. Regardless of the current development in surgery and therapies, overall survival of end stage CRC pa...
